International Migrants Day

18 December 2013

The United Nations’ International Migrants Day is an annual event to reassert and promote migrants’ rights. Brussels, a cosmopolitan city on a human scale, harbours many migrants with all kinds of backgrounds, mainly due to her role as the capital of Europe. The Brussels-Capital Region, as a centre for higher education, attracts many young people from Flanders and Wallonia. The highest concentration of migrants is situated around the European neighbourhood en the city centre, but also in some neighbourhoods in the so-called “second crown”, specifically in the western part of the Region.
